MAARS Fun Facts
Since September 2006, MAARS has taken in 52
birds. |
50% of all intakes are unscheduled emergencies
(birds from other shelters or birds whose guardians have had a
sudden illness, death, or military deployment). |
It takes approximately 310 volunteer hours per
week to care for the birds at The Landing. |
MAARS volunteers clean and fold approximately
21 loads of laundry per week. |
MAARS volunteers wash and disinfect 1,408 food
and water dishes per week. |
The birds at MAARS consume 80 lbs. of pellets
and 40 lbs. of human-grade seed per week. |
Additionally, the MAARS flock consumes 40 lbs.
of fresh produce per week. |
Senior Staff at MAARS hosted educational workshops
at The Landing to more than 170 veterinary and veterinary technician
students from the University of Minnesota, Minnesota School of
Business, and Argosy University. |
We have also taught our Basic
Bird Care class to the public, volunteers, and adopters approximately
85 times since its inception. |
MAARS conducted 5 local and 2 national presentations
on parrot welfare issues in the past year. |
