Apricot

Apricot has come a long way since joining the MAARS flock in 2021. His sense of humor shines through, and his mischievous nature is top-notch. This clever and headstrong cockatoo enjoys destroying toys, along with the occasional wheel or two on the houses of his fellow flock members.

Even though Apricot has always been strong-willed, he has gained confidence in telling everyone what he needs. When he first arrived, he was frustrated that humans didn’t understand what he needed to say. Taking the time necessary to understand a bird is critical to gain their trust so they thrive in captivity. Because each bird is unique, sometimes it can take time for humans to learn a specific bird’s cues. In time we’ve learned what Apricot means, and he’s become more consistent about sharing his thoughts with us.

Though he’s still cautious in trusting other birds, Apricot is slowly warming up. Amazon Davey can be a bit pushy as he makes friends. He really likes Apricot, and while Apricot needs a little space, he’s beginning to see that it’s good to have feathered friends to rely on. With a bit of encouragement from the humans, Apricot is growing more confident when interacting with Davey and the other birds.
