Our History

Since  the founding of MAARS in July 1999, almost 1500 unwanted  parrots have  come through our doors. More than 1400 birds have been successfully placed into permanent homes. We’ve consistently grown since then, all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community!

Our Mission

MAARS’ core function is to care for our flock at our facility, The Landing. Our primary mission is to educate the public, people who already live with parrots, and the veterinary community about the issues that face captive parrots.

MAARS is a sanctuary accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). Some may ask, what is the difference between a sanctuary and a rescue? Heres one difference: Sanctuaries prioritize long-term care and rehabilitation for animals, providing a permanent home for those that cannot be adopted. Shelters primarily focus on rescuing animals and finding most of them new homes. Below, Phillippe is one of our long time residents who occasionally helps with cleaning🥰
